About Me

My photo
Daniel M. Hale
St. Helena, CA, United States
Essential. Elemental. Original. Serendipitous. Inspired by ancient art, architecture, nature, modern works. A synthesis of old and new, incorporating common materials in new ways. The interplay of different materials and textures. Handmade, conceived and executed with strict attention to detail. Careful restraint. An alchemy of juxtapositions that is more than a sum of its parts. Simple forms with embellished surfaces and engaging details. Sometimes recycled materials give new life to discarded objects. Materials discovered, a use is found. Painted surfaces acquire depth. Layers of color, applied, scrubbed, scraped, sanded, combed, scratched through to reveal what lies beneath. Tinted waxes hand burnished. Some pieces freestanding, others fitted to the fabric of the project. Collaborations with designers/architects welcomed. Site visits often useful. A sketch and cost will be provided. Complete design services available. Please call or email with any questions. danielhale64@yahoo.com www.danielhale.com 707.963.1283
