At the same time that our home project in California was issuing forth, back in Maryland another project was rising from the foundation (and then some) of a previous home that sat on a beautiful hill in what was once a portion of the park of the old Wroxeter mansion that sits on a bluff above the Severn river. The clients for this project had purchased a home that we had forged back in 1994 when we lived in Round Bay on the same Severn river. They had decided that they wanted to move to a more spacious and private setting. We were engaged to do the design of this new project for them. As it turned out we also furnished many of the pieces and some of the details built in to the home. It was a collaboration between designer, client, and builder that I have truly come to appreciate and one that I will treasure. The clients and builder were an inspiration to work with. Finishes were deliberated upon, samples ordered, shipments delayed but finally sent. A great deal of the work was accomplished from afar via email, culminating in a month-plus long visit and fabrication/immersion. It has gladly been christened in its new incarnation. I wish it and it's new family the most sincere happiness. And I thank them and the entire team that worked to build it.

Great project. love the arches as an architectural feature and the use of materials in the kitchen
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Lead front is very cool, seems that's what it wants to be. Did you really spend that much time with those people?
ReplyDeleteFrancine, Thank you and welcome back from Maison Objet.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, Yes, Hardly seemed like any time at all, time flies......
Boat lamp looks very intriguing, How does it look at night, fully lit?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful project, overall.
The boat lamp is loaded with spotlights on a dimmer. Glows at night, light shafts coming through the skeletal frame.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable house. Wow.
ReplyDeleteAll the best to you and yours and hope you enjoy every moment in it!
sooooo cool... what an amazing project... doesn't it feel so good when a project goes so well and the outcome is so fabulous????
ReplyDeletedo you still have your coffee table? can you please provide photo and dimensions? might have the perfect spot for it...
Hi Daniel. Love the lead tiles, mud shoe sconce, photos your daughter Lauren took back in September. My daughter's a senior at Cal...posted some photos in January of her jaunt from Cambridge to Rome (great seeing through your kid's eyes). Just love your blog. Recently put white subway tile in son's bathroom (his request)...but for a moment it felt like a shame to cover up the cement backer board. Will reread your blog to glean all your sources! Any good tips on double paned metal windows? Trish
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful project. Except for the guy in the hat..........kidding! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks April.
ReplyDeletePam, thanks for swinging by. I will email you about the table.
Trouvais(Trish), Thanks, it warms my heart to see someone singing the praises of cement board. You are somewhere in my neck of the woods? Fleetwood made the windows/doors they are 1" insulated glass and they are amazing and I would definitely recommend them. Great blog you have.
Thanks Dandy.
Daniel

Thank you for your comment. i try to use texture walls as much as clients's budget will allow, plaster, cement, weathered wood, stone etc... i just spent some time re-looking at your project. It is truly a very special house.
ReplyDeleteKarena, Have done so, really nice work. Good luck with the Art event! Congrats.
ReplyDeleteAnnon, I am in saint Helena, the house above is outside of Annapolis Maryland.
Francine, I think in next house may just do the plaster and be done with it. We did it here in a smooth hard trowel finish that makes you just want to stroke it. Reflects as you look down a wall. Worth every penny.
Thanks, Daniel
The house looks just gorgeous Daniel!!
ReplyDeleteI love it!
Beautiful details as the window seat upstairs!
